Digestive · Disease education /

The main immediate danger of diarrhea is dehydration. Safe fluids, ORS and timely medical care are important.

About / परिचय

Diarrhea can be caused by infections spread through contaminated food or water and by other causes. Repeated loose stools can quickly lead to loss of water and electrolytes, especially in children.

Helpful steps /

Use safe fluids and prepare ORS exactly according to the packet instructions. Continue appropriate food as tolerated. Good hand hygiene and safe water are important.

When to seek professional help /

Medical care is important for severe dehydration, blood in stool, persistent fever, repeated vomiting, severe abdominal pain, very young children, or symptoms lasting longer than expected.

Prevention & wellbeing /

Safe drinking water, sanitation, handwashing with soap, food hygiene and recommended vaccination can reduce risk.
